History of Our School

A Short History of the School from the very beginning:

‘After many disappointments in the search for premises in North London, … I decided, with not a little trepidation, to make the leap to South London and take up Peter’s [Bridgmont] offer of use of his former nursery school premises at 12 Balham Park Road, in which to attempt to start the long-promised London Waldorf School. … we began Saturday morning school sessions in May 1983, to build up interest in the area. Margaret Meyerkort offered a free place on her Kindergarten Teachers’ Training Course for a suitable candidate with a commitment to London; and so it was that Sally Templer was accepted … with a view to taking on the kindergarten with a supporting group of teachers in September 1984.”

The School grew gradually from these first tentative beginnings, and moved classes to Woodfields Pavilion in 1986. By 1991, the School had 83 pupils in 5 classes and 2 kindergartens and was able to open a dedicated library in 1999. The school continues to grow and adapt, providing a unique Waldorf Steiner Education to children and their families in South London.
