Jazz Club

jazzclub

The Jazz Club was set up by parents and students to explore song and music making, by sharing the musical skills and experience of the whole School Community. The Club is open to all, as long as individuals are willing to participate; from singing to drumming, from strumming to dancing, from whistling to blowing, the Club welcomes the youngest child to the most ‘tone deaf’ adult, interested in the musical potential of popular music and jazz.

The Club seeks to create an atmosphere of creative inclusion through the magic of musical harmony and dissonance. Everyone can enjoy!

Jazz Club Member: As an unskilled musican with very little idea of what I was letting myself in for, I turned up one cold autumn day for a session with the Jazz group. I had no instrument, no songbook, just the thought that I would like to explore, with my two children, the music created by the School Community. I was inspired by the children’s campaign song for the School, performed at the Summer Fair. So I was surprised at first how few of the students were there. I had imagined the Club was filled with young guitarist’s and expert percussionists, but I really enjoyed banging the drums and hitting the bells. Trying to mimic the skill and rhythm of an eleven year oldĀ  took some concentration but I improved. Now after 4or 5 sessions I’m looking to experiment with a whole new array of percussive instruments and homemade shakers. Not only that but both my children enjoy it immensely and ask me every Sunday if we are going to the Jazz Club next day on Monday. It adds so much to their and my life. On a dreary Winter Day what is better than making music together with people who can really play…

JAZZ CLUB times: Every Monday after School from 4-5.30pm (Meet at the Pavilion)
